Desert Festival is one of the most striking and dazzling festival of Rajasthan that makes sandy zone come alive with the brilliant color, music and laughter. It is celebrated once a year in winters in around January and February. This dazzling and vivacious Rajasthani festival goes on for few days where Rajasthani men and beautiful women get dressed in their bright finery and sing lasting ballads of heroism, romance and tragedy.
Other dazzling attractions of Desert festival are snake charmers, puppeteers, acrobats, folk performers etc. Amidst all these the central theme of this festival is Camel. Decked up villagers, along with their equally ornamented camels, take part in camel dances and competitions of camel acrobatics, camel races, camel polo, tug of war and much more.
All these festivities take place in the golden city of Jaisalmer. Fire dancers sway boldly to traditional tunes and generate whole lot of fun and frolic. The grand finale is a trip to the Sand Dunes where one can enjoy the pleasure of a camel ride and even watch the folk dancers and musicians perform.
