Although sesame is an oil seed, according to ancient food grading it is placed along in legumes (pulses) family. This ingredient is sweet as well as bitter in taste and possesses plenty of astringent properties. Sesame seeds are hot in propensity and aid in easy digestion after consuming food. The excessive consumption of sesame seeds can enhance the ‘pitta’ and ‘kapha’ nature of the body and reduce the ‘vata’ nature. Sesame oil is very nourishing tonic if applied to hair or even skin. It is especially good as a tonic for the skin and hair. Those individuals suffering from mouth blisters or minor ulcers can use crushed sesame seeds to great effectiveness.
