Katha Upanisad 1.2.5)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just as there is no yuga equal to Satya-yuga, no scriptures equal to
Vedas, no pilgrimage equal to Ganges, so there is no month equal to
Karttika. Therefore Karttika is very dear to the vaishnavas and they
follow all its rules with proper devotion.
(Skanda Purana)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All holy places and all holy rivers, streams and lakes reside in the
circle of Mathura during Karttika.
(Srila Rupa Gosvami - Mathura Mahatyam Text 179)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sex life is compared to the rubbing of two hands to relieve an itch.
Grhamedis, so-called grhasthas who have no spiritual knowledge, think
that this itching is the greatest platform of happiness, although
actually it is a source of distress. The krpanas, the fools who are
just the opposite of brahmanas, are not satisfied by repeated
enjoyment. Those who are
dhira, however, who are sober and who
tolerate this itching, are not subjected to the sufferings of fools
and rascals.
(Prahlada Maharaja's prayers to Lord Nrsimhadeva - Srimad Bhagavatam
7.9.45)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sri Krsna, the Personality of Godhead, who is the Paramatma Supersoul] in everyone's heart and the benefactor of the
truthful
devotee, cleanses desire for material enjoyment from the heart of the
devotee who has developed the urge to hear His messages, which are in
themselves virtuous when properly heard and chanted.
(Suta Gosvami - Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.2.17)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bhakti cult is the topmost of all transcendental activities, and
therefore it is simultaneously sublime and easy. It is sublime for the
pure devotees who are serious about getting in contact with the
Supreme Lord, and it is easy for the neophytes who are just on the
threshold of the house of bhakti.
(His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Srimad
Bhagavatam 1.2.7, Purport)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the modern setup of democratic states the citizens can have no
cause for grievances, because the whole administration is conducted by
the people themselves. If the people themselves are dishonest, the
administrative machinery must be corrupt. Although a damned government
of the people may be given a good or fancy name, if the people are not
good they cannot have a good government, regardless of which party
governs the administration. Therefore good character is the first
principle for good government and equal distribution of wealth.
(His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Light of the
Bhagavata, page 5)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the association of pure devotees, discussion of the pastimes of
the Supreme Personality of Godhead is very pleasing and satisfying to
the ear and heart. By cultivating such knowledge one gradually becomes
advanced on the path of liberation, and thereafter he is freed, and
his attraction becomes fixed. Then real devotion and devotional
service begin.
(Lord Kapila - Srimad-Bhagavatam 3.25.25)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Lord does not award the devotional service to ordinary person who
are not serious about it. But even such unserious person who execute
devotional service according to the regulative principles during the
month of karttika, and within the jurisdiction of mathura in India,
are very easily awarded the Lord's personal service.
(Nector Of devotion 12 - Furthur aspects of trancendental service)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saintly persons, who are friends to all living entities, have a
peaceful consciousness. They have controlled their senses and minds,
and they easily attain the path of liberation, the path back to
Godhead. Being unfortunate and attached to the miserable material
condition, a materialistic person cannot associate with them.
(Sukadeva Gosvami - Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.14.39)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even though one may be very learned and wise, he is mad if he does
not understand that the endeavor for sense gratification is a useless
waste of time. Being forgetful of his own interest, he tries to be
happy in the material world, centering his interests on his home,
which is based on sexual intercourse and which brings him all kinds of
material miseries. In this way one is no better than a foolish animal.
(Lord Rsabhadeva - Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.5.7)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Regardless of time or place, one who chants the holy name, even while
eating or sleeping, attains all perfection.
(Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu - Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Antya-lila 20.18)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- May there be good fortune throughout the universe, and may all
envious persons be pacified. May all living entities become calm by
practicing bhakti-yoga, for by accepting devotional service they will
think of each other's welfare. Therefore let us all engage in the
service of the supreme transcendence, Lord Sri Krsna, and always
remain absorbed in thought of Him.
(Sri Prahlada Maharaja - Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.18.9)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Only an empowered personality can distribute the holy name of the
Lord and enjoin all fallen souls to worship Krsna. By distributing the
holy name of the Lord, he cleanses the hearts of the most fallen
people; therefore he extinguishes the blazing fire of the material
world. Not only that, he broadcasts the shining brightness of Krsna's
effulgence throughout the world. Such an acarya, or spiritual master,
should be considered nondifferent from Krsna—that is, he should be
considered the incarnation of Lord Krsna's potency.
(Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura -Quoted in Sri
Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya-lila 25.9, purport)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For a person who has suitable shoes on his feet, there is no danger
even when he walks on pebbles and thorns. For him, everything is
auspicious. Similarly, for one who is always self-satisfied there is
no distress; indeed, he feels happiness everywhere.
(Narada Muni - Srimad-Bhagavatam 7.15.17)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the value of a prolonged life which is wasted, inexperienced
by years in this world? Better a moment of full consciousness, because
that gives one a start in searching after his supreme interest.
(Srila Sukadeva Gosvami – Srimad Bhagavatam 2.1.12)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When faults in others misguide and delude you—have patience,
introspect, find faults in ourself. Know that others cannot harm you
unless you harm yourself.

Bangladesh, 1935) |
