Vedic Thoughts

A pure devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is always thinking of how fallen, conditioned souls can be delivered. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, influenced by the devotees' attempt to deliver fallen souls, enlightens the people in general from within by His causeless mercy.

(His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Srimad-Bhagavatam 4.29.46, purport)

Just as those who are greedy see everything as a source of money-making and those who are lusty see everything as conducive to sex, the most perfect devotee sees Krsna everywhere.

(Srimad-Bhagavatam 7.7.55, Purport)

A person becomes purified simply by hearing the holy name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, whose lotus feet create the holy places of pilgrimage. Therefore, what remains to be attained by those who have become His servants?

(Durvasa Muni - Srimad-Bhagavatam 9.5.16)

Give up all fear and shyness and take shelter of the merciful Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He rescues the most wicked of heart, and therefore he is known as Patita Pavana, "the savior of the fallen.

(Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura – Prarthana)

What relish can there be for material enjoyment when we are exposed to hunger, thirst, disease, decrepitude, emaciation, growth, decline, and death. The universe is tending to decay—grass, trees, animals spring up and die. Mighty men are gone, leaving their joys and glories. Beings still greater than these have passed away. Vast oceans have dried, mountains have been thrown down, the polar star displaced, the cords that bind planets rent asunder, the whole earth deluged with flood. In such a world, what relish can there be in fleeting enjoyments? Living in such a world, are we not like frogs jumping in a
dried-up well?

(Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura - Immanent and Transcendent (The Scorpion and the Fire)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Krsna is the supreme personality of godhead and cause of all causes. He is original creator, maintainer, and annihilator of all universes. Lord Brahma and Lord Rudra are empowered secondary agents under the instructions of Krsna.

(Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur - CB madhya 1.149, commentary)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An intelligent person should reject all bad association and instead take up the association of saintly devotees, whose words cut off the excessive attachment of one's mind.

(Lord Sri Krsna - Bhagavad-gita 2.20)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With sword in hand, intelligent men cut through the binding knots of reactionary work [karma] by remembering the Personality of Godhead.

(Lord Sri Krsna - Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.26.26)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the soul there is neither birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.

(Suta Gosvami - Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.2.15)

Men become strong and stout by eating sufficient grains, but the devotee who simply eats ordinary grains but does not taste the transcendental pastimes of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Krsna gradually becomes weak and falls down from the transcendental position.

(Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami - Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya-lila 25.278)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One can gradually become purified by seeing, touching, and worshiping temple deities, places of pilgrimage, and holy rivers. But one can attain the same result immediately simply by receiving the glance of exalted sages.

(Lord Sri Krsna – Srimad Bhagavatam 10.86.52)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chanting Krsna's sweet name purifies the heart; sanctifies and steadies the mind; destroys the six enemies [lust, anger, greed, envy, illusion, madness]; stops birth and death; dissolves sins; scorches samskaras; annihilates attachment; induces detachment; uproots desires; empowers one; makes one fearless; removes illusion; bestows supreme peace; delivers prema; reveals the Lord and His dhama; shows one's svarupa; showers bhakti-rasa; and engages one in his nitya seva for the pleasure of Radha-Syama.

(Mahanidhi Swami - Art of Chanting Hare Krsna, p13)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do not discriminate in your heart between enemies and friends; make your mind equipoise toward everyone. Except for the uncontrolled and misguided mind, there is no enemy within this world. When one sees everyone on the platform of equality, one then comes to the position of worshiping the Lord perfectly.

(Prahlada Maharaja - Srimad-Bhagavatam 7.8.9)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The material miseries of the living entity, which are superfluous to him, can be directly mitigated by the linking process of devotional service. But the mass of people do not know this, and therefore the learned Vyasadeva compiled this Vedic literature [Srimad-Bhagavatam], which is in relation to the Supreme Truth.

(Srila Suta Gosvami - Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.7.6)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One who has experienced his own true identity understands that all things exist as paraphernalia for giving ecstatic pleasure to the Supreme Lord.

(Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura - Commentary on Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.2.41)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Life's desires should never be directed towards sense gratification. One should desire only a healthy life, or self-reservation, since a human being is meant for inquiry about the Absolute Truth. Nothing else should be the goal of one's works.

To say nothing of the spiritual advancement of persons who see the Supreme Person face to face, even a person born in a family of dog-eaters immediately becomes eligible to perform Vedic sacrifices if he once utters the holy name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead or chants about Him, hears about His pastimes, offers Him obeisances, or even remembers Him.

(Srimati Devahuti – Srimad Bhagavatam 3.33.6)

In Vedic literature Krsna is the central point of attraction, and His service is our activity. To attain the platform of love of Krsna is life's ultimate goal. Therefore Krsna, Krsna's service, and love of Krsna are the three great riches of life.

(Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu - Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya-lila 20.143)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Krsna will be merciful to us and we shall be blessed with the gift of devotion to His divine feet the very day that we are delivered from the evil desire of seeking advantages and honors from others.

(Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fear arises when a living entity misidentifies himself as the material body because of absorption in the external, illusory energy of the Lord. When the living entity thus turns away from the Supreme Lord, he also forgets his own constitutional position as a servant of the Lord. This bewildering, fearful condition is affected by the potency for illusion, called maya.

(Sri Kavi Rsi - Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.2.37)
