Vedic Thoughts

When the Lord is served with loving affection, one realizes his glory. By such means one becomes free of sorrow and victorious over death, and one ascends to the eternally manifest spiritual sky called Maha-Vaikuntha.

(Svesasvatara Upanishad 4.7-8)

Firm, ceaseless, and unshakable love of God which surpasses every other form of affection or attachment, and which is based on and inspired by a full knowledge of His transcendent majesty, is called bhakti; by that alone does one attain liberation-by no other means.

(Sripada Madhvacarya)

O Krsna, those who continuously hear, chant, and repeat Your transcendental activities, or take pleasure in others’ doing so, certainly see Your lotus feet, which alone can stop the repetition of birth and death.

(Srimati Kunti Devi dasi - Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.36)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The neophyte Vaisnava devotees’ ringing the bell even once during worship of the Deity of the Supreme Lord is a million times more valuable, spiritually and otherwise, than the charitable fruitive workers’ building hospitals, feeding thousands of the poor, or building homes, or even the empiric philosophers’ Vedic studies, meditation, austerities, and penances.

(Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura)

He who is situated in pure knowledge of the transcendence of the Supreme Personality of God is so protected in devotional service that material contamination cannot touch him.

(His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Bhagavad Gita- 7.17, purport)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Service to Lord Krsna is the original nature of the individual spirit soul. Situated in that service, the individual soul is happy eternally. Rejecting that service, the individual soul becomes attracted to material illusions and suffers the threefold miseries of material life.

(Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura - Sri Datta-kaustubha, Text 29)
Those persons who accumulated sufficient pious activities for thousands of birth achieve bhakti. By execution of bhakti, one is able to situate oneself in the abode of lord krsna.

Padma Purana - Uttara khanda 194.20)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But those who always worship me with exclusive devotion, meditating on my transcendental form, to them I carry what they lack and I preserve what they have.
(Lord Sri Krsna - Bhagavad Gita 9.22)

Men who do not know the principles of devotional service to the Supreme Lord should be known as cows and asses, even if they are expert in technically analyzing Vedic mantras and are adored by world leaders.

(Brhaspati-samhita)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One who is sufficiently intelligent should use the human form of body from the very beginning of life, in other words, from the tender age of childhood, to practice the activities of devotional service, giving up all other engagements. The human body is most rarely achieved, and although temporary like other bodies, it is meaningful because in human life one can perform devotional service. Even a slight amount of sincere devotional service can give one complete perfection.

(Prahlada Maharaja - Srimad Bhagavatam 7.6.1)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My dear Arjuna, only by undivided devotional service can I be understood as I am, standing before you, and can thus be seen directly. Only in this way can you enter into the mysteries of my understanding.

(Lord Sri Krsna - Bhagavad Gita 11.54)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Devotional service is the process of worshiping the Supreme Lord. It consists of fixing one’s mind upon Him by becoming disinterested in all material designations, both in this life and the next. This indeed is true renunciation.

(Gopala tapani Upanshad - Purva 15)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The topmost person is one who achieves Lord through devotional service. He enjoys food and sports in the abode of Lord.

(Chandogya Upnisad 8.12)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bhakti cult is the topmost of all transcendental activities, and therefore it is simultaneously sublime and easy. It is sublime for the pure devotees who are serious about getting in contact with the Supreme Lord, and it is easy for the neophytes who are just on the threshold of the house of bhakti.

(His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada - Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.7, Purport)

A pure devotee of the Lord whose heart has once been cleansed by the process of devotional service never relinquishes the lotus feet of Lord Krishna, for they fully satisfy him, as a traveler is satisfied at home after a troubled journey.
(Pariksit Maharaja - Srimad Bhagavatam 2.8.6)

Krsna is all-attractive, but pure devotional service attracts even Him. This means that pure devotional service is even transcendentally stronger than Krsna, because it is Krsna’s internal potency.

(His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada - The Nectar of Devotion, p-4)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The living entities are fragmental parts of the supreme shelter, Krsna, but have fallen from Krsna’s kingdom of spiritual pastimes. Because of forgetting the Supreme Lord, they become prone to sinful life and turn their attention to dangerous material objects, which fill them with constant fear. If one desires to subdue the mind, which is constantly engaged in the duality of mental concoction, one must take to the devotional service of Lord Krsna.

(Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura - Commentary on Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.2.38)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Devotion, direct experience of the Supreme Lord, and detachment from other things-these three occur simultaneously for one who has taken shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, in the same way as pleasure, nourishment, and relief from hunger come simultaneously and increasingly, with each bite, for a person engaged in eating.

(Sri Kavi Rsi - Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.2.42)
